Born from a Love

"Pizza luce was never about selling pizza — it was about sharing something real, something handcrafted, something that tastes like it was made for you."

It started in 1993 with a single oven, a handful of local ingredients, and a stubborn refusal to compromise on quality. Founder Marco Luciani opened our first location on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis with one simple belief: that great pizza begins with great ingredients and the patience to do things the right way.

Three decades later, Pizza luce has grown from a neighborhood gem into a beloved Minneapolis institution — but our commitment to craft has never wavered. Every dough ball is still hand-stretched daily. Every sauce is still made from scratch. Every pizza is still baked to order, the same way it was on day one.

We source locally whenever we can, work with Minnesota farmers and producers, and keep our menu honest — no shortcuts, no compromises, just real food made by people who care deeply about what they put on your table.

From a single oven on Lyndale Avenue to five beloved locations across the Twin Cities — here's how we grew.

1993

The Beginning

Marco Luciani opens the first Pizza luce on Lyndale Avenue, Minneapolis, with a wood-fired oven, six tables, and a dream to serve real pizza.

1997

First Expansion

Driven by demand and community love, we open our second location in Uptown — and introduce late-night service that quickly becomes legendary.

2002

Going Local

We formalize our local sourcing program, partnering with Minnesota farms for fresh produce, dairy, and meats — a commitment still going strong today.

2008

Award-Winning Years

City Pages names Pizza luce "Best Pizza in Minneapolis" for the third consecutive year. We expand our menu to include signature calzones and seasonal specials.

2015

St. Paul Arrives

We cross the river and open our first St. Paul location, bringing the Pizza luce experience to a whole new community of passionate pizza lovers.

2020

Resilience & Reinvention

Through difficult times, our team pivots seamlessly to contactless delivery and curbside pickup — strengthening our bond with the communities we serve.

2024

The Next Chapter

We open our Richfield flagship at 800 W 66th St — our most ambitious location yet, featuring a full craft bar, private dining, and an open kitchen.

The visionary behind Pizza luce. Marco's passion for authentic Italian craft and local ingredients has shaped every aspect of our menu and culture for over 30 years.

Sofia Reyes

Dough & Pastry Chef

Sofia's mastery of fermentation and hand-stretching techniques gives our crusts their signature texture. Trained in Naples, she joined Pizza luce in 2005.

James Okafor

Operations Manager

James ensures every one of our five locations runs like clockwork. He also manages our local sourcing partnerships with over 12 Minnesota farms.
